Pet Travel from January 1st 2021!

Pet Passports:

Some of you may be looking to take your beloved pet on your holidays! The most important details are:  your pet needs the rabies vaccination AT LEAST 3 WEEKS before travel, and the Export Certificate/Health check NO SOONER THAN 10 DAYS before travel!!

We are no longer in the EU the Pet Passport Scheme is no longer operational. Your pet will still need a Rabies Vaccination, this is the latest advice from DEFRA:

Travelling to an EU country or Northern Ireland

You can no longer use a pet passport issued in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland) for travel to an EU country or Northern Ireland. You can still use a pet passport issued in an EU country or Northern Ireland.

When travelling to an EU country or Northern Ireland, your pet needs:

These requirements also apply to assistance dogs.

Check the rules of the country you’re travelling to for any additional restrictions or requirements before you travel.

Travelling from Great Britain to Northern Ireland 

If you have a pet passport issued in Northern Ireland, contact your vet for advice before travelling.

Arriving in an EU country or Northern Ireland

You’ll need to go through a travellers’ point of entry when you arrive in an EUcountry or Northern Ireland.

You may need to show your pet’s animal health certificate along with proof of their:

  • microchip
  • rabies vaccination
  • tapeworm treatment (if required)

Repeat trips to an EU country or Northern Ireland

Your pet will need a new animal health certificate for each trip to an EUcountry or Northern Ireland.

Your pet will not need a repeat rabies vaccination so long as it’s rabies vaccinations are up to Your dog will need tapeworm treatment for each trip if you’re travelling directly to Finland, Ireland, Malta, Northern Ireland or Norway.

An EU pet passport issued in a member state is still valid to enter GB . Before they enter GB , all pets must be: microchipped. vaccinated against rabies - your vet needs proof that your pet's at least 12 weeks old before vaccinating them.
